CLF Artist Box #4

I hope everyone who celebrated,
had a wonderful Easter weekend!

Here in the South,
the temps were mild with a mixture of sun, clouds, rain and fog.
My mom has been visiting, and we had a nice relaxing weekend up at the lake.

and BTW...
Happy April Fools Day!
don't let anyone get you!

This week's CLF image by Kerrie
was quite a challenge for me.
She had sent me a handful of images,
but it was this one that jumped out at me.
That lizard is just sooo darn cute!
Therefore, I chose it for this week's prompt.

It wasn't until I actually sat down to play with it
that I realized I didn't have any creative ideas for it.
I got stumped.

I created the first edit in PSE.
After much thought, I finally decided to clean up the background to highlight the lizard.
Once I did that, I felt I still needed to draw more attention to the subject,
so I isolated the color of the lizard and saturated the yellows of the original image.
I then thought a square crop would make the composition a bit more interesting.

It wasn't until after I had done this edit
that I saw other edits coming in the same way,
sooo....I put my thinking cap back on.

The only other thing I could come up with
was to have fun, so I did.

I went to the ipad app store
and found two creative apps

1.Aquarella HD
2. Haiku HD

and then the playing began!

here were the results:
(there were more, many more, but I didn't want to subject you to them all!)

I'm new to the ipad scene,
so I was like a kid in a candy shop.
These apps were so easy to use and so much fun!
I'd love to get some suggestions from all of you
about other photo editing apps you have found that you like playing with!

There haven't been as many submissions this week
which might be due to the holiday Easter weekend,
but if by chance, this image has also stumped you, as it did me,
just remember to have fun with it!
We'd all love to see what you can come up with!

just click the pic below
there's still time to link-up!

  3. Jill, these are wonderful.
I absolutely love the square crop with the black background.
It really brought out an amazing amount of detail in this little fella.

  4. I am glad you had a good Easter and that your Mom was able to join you at the lake.....I have been really busy with family at the beach so I have not had a chance to participate in the challenge but I am going to work on it this afternoon while the kids go on a family adventure....

I love your first edit...and yes you are so right. It's great to think outside the box and I think this photograph challenges me to do just that...now what to come up with.....be back later....

  5. Oh such a creative flow you'be been in ... that's so lovely - you forget the time and Space and are all in the Pictures! Using iPad editing would be nice to try, that didn't occur me at all. I loke your first edition a lot, clearing the background works very well. ALso the creative, colorful edits are cool - the last one with the light, wood-like pastel-colors is different and fresh.

  6. I have to say I am a little envious of how wonderful your edited photographs are. Spectacular! The square crop is perfect and those intense and vivid colours are to die for. What I love most is how you bought out the details in his/her eye. I have so much to learn.

  8. What an amazing assortment of edits! You went to town playing. I wish I had time to play this week, but I have to work. Unless I can sneak in some time at night. Glad you had a nice weekend at the lake. Sounds wonderful. Hope you have a great week!

  10. I love your edits. As for apps for the iPad...check out Pixlromatic+, PhotoToaster, Tangled FX and XnView FX. These are some of my favorites. I love editing with my iPad apps because they're really easy to use and you can create some really nice effects.

  11. Oh, I am so jealous that you get to play with the iPad apps! It looks like you were having a good time using them too. I really like the colors and the abstract nature of the last photo : )

P.S. Sorry I missed last week. I started editing the photo, but before I could finish it the week got away from me :(
