are you a good listener?

::

have you noticed
conversations
are sometimes
comprised of
one person
doing all the talking
while the other
 is doing all the listening?

in searching quotes
apparently this is quite common
when it comes to listening
here are a few others
i found quite interesting

“This is the problem with dealing with someone who is actually a good listener.
They don’t jump in on your sentences, saving you from actually finishing them, or talk over you,
allowing what you do manage to get out to be lost or altered in transit.
Instead, they wait, so you have to keep going.”
Sarah Dessen

“Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.”
Stephen R. Covey,

“Most of the successful people I’ve known are the ones who do more listening than talking.”
  Bernard M. Baruch

"We have two ears and only one tongue in order that we may hear more and speak less.”

“Friends are those rare people who ask how we are,
and then wait to hear the answer.”
  Ed Cunningham

 “Being heard
is so close to being loved
that for the average person,
they are almost indistinguishable.”
  David Augsburger

do you consider yourself a good listener?

  2. Oh such wise words. Listening, if it doesn't always feel natural, is important to practice and learn. Beautiful photo.

  6. I think/hope I'm a good listener, but it may be just that I do not do a lot of talking. :-)
Great question, and something to think about.

  8. The quotes tell a lot ~ active listening and mirroring, being present in the conversation, maybe just nodding ~ often brings about the feeling of being heard understood ... You raise important and meanings full thoughts!

  10. Two interesting thoughts occurred to me as I read this...first, while watching Survivor last night, my kids, hubby, and I had a conversation about people who ask questions and then keep talking and don't even let the person answer! And the Covey quote is oh so true! Beautiful post.

  14. Fabulous. I do try to think and listen before I jump in - my tendency is to jump in and interrupt - but I am more careful of that now that I think about it. It does make for a better conversation.
